This Week - Monarch Butterflies

We've spent a lot of time recently watching our monarch butterfly caterpillars munch their way through the swan plants we like to grow especially to attract the monarchs to the garden. When large enough, the caterpillars hang themselves in a J shape and miraculously form pretty green chrysalises which slowly turn black and clear so you can see the orange wings shining through. Click on the small photos below to see a larger version. The large photo below of a newly hatched monarch butterfly is also available in three different sizes from our wallpaper page.

For other photos, check out our Desktop Wallpaper pages and our Galleries. For more information on the Monarch Butterfly life cycle and animated sequences of a caterpillar turning into a chrysalis and of a butterfly emerging from the chrysalis go here: http://www.monarchbutterflyusa.com/Cycle.htm
